Now that was a serious kick in the ass, and just what I needed about now to wake me up a bit. I'd like some of what the guitar player and drummer are having to give them that much energy. Nice job Griff. You do indeed "rawhk".  -Geritol Bob

STORIES BEHIND THE SONGS

“Wednesday”

''I get up in the morning and I go to work-
I can't be late cause my boss-is-a-jerk'' was one of those lines that just stuck in my head and (way back when) I used to chime out so often that my son who was 4 at the time, when given a microphone to record his first 'song', blurted it out first, followed by "My name is R.J. and I'm four years old, and this is my rap"...uh??? ...RAP??!! [sigh]
Self explanatory right?? Ya bust ass every day after day after day, after year- after year- after year...Sometimes it can get tha best of you, and ya stay out a lil too late, a lil too often, a lil too impaired...When that damn machine starts that early a.m racket, if you had an endless supply of clock-radios and glass doors, that sucka'd be through the glass most mornings before that sorry sunnuva-b even knew it...
You're in la-la land, right before the daily rude awaking...it's Friday, work’s juuuuuuust about over...Any minute now...Almost...Almost....
Then-CLICK!!!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE UP.....
IT'S WEDNESDAY!!!!!!! GET UP!! GET UP!! GETTTTTTTTTTTTTTT  UUUUUUUUPPPP!!!!
$#*#$f’in %$#$sunnuva #^*& mutha ^*%fu#$in$^^#&*$#*$s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
heh-heh, loooong "story" for a short song...oh well...   ;~)

“Walk Away”

Have you ever had one of those days…a week…a few weeks, or a month…etc., where you just don’t feel like listenin’ to someone [friend or no] go on and on and on and on and on and on…When your mind [for whatever reason of your own] is already overloaded and stressed to the hilt, and you just wish they would walk away…”Not tryin’ to be ‘rude’, though I’m told I really can be.”

"7, 8 and 10"

"yes I believe in the bible- yes, I've seen my share of sin
yes, I know the 10 commandments- I've broken 7, 8 and 10
because I learned about women and how special they feel
I learned what I had to do- to frequently fulfill that feel".
Married women, separated women, divorced women…This song was written 30-31 years ago. I was young, what else can I say?

“Listenin’ to the Rain (Wonderin’ Where You are Tonight)"

I read somewhere that a songwriter once said lyrics were 80% truth and 20% rhyme. I was once also told that lyric writing was 20% truth and 80% rhyme...so...that being said, the main 'inspiration' for this song is:
I was 19, she was in her early 20s. She was my first 'true love'; before I grew older and leery of both 'true' and 'love'. Half Mexican, half white...slender, creamy-skinned...
She became my every thought, my constant desire-and since she had just recently been divorced from the 'love' of her life [her, what? 2nd husband of the now 4...5?] with the divorce being his choice, not hers...she became the biggest head-trip of my life. Well, the 1st biggest, but I digress...
In and out of my life over the next few years, more times than I care to count or even remember. I have her initial branded into the side of my arm...God are we stoooopid as hell when we're young, or what??!! Sheeeesh...
Anyway...that was long ago and very far, far away. She makes 'appearances' in several of my songs, so something good came out of it...
Occasionally she still makes appearances in my dreams. I don't know if that's a good thing, a bad thing, or a meaningless thing...
then again, maybe I do...
I wish her nothing but the best wishes possible. I hope she finally found something or someone to bring her happiness, and fulfillment...or at least peace of mind...
Waaaaaaay back then, I would have given my soul for it to have been me. As the crow flies, I hear, she lives less than 15 miles from me after all these years. I doubt she even remembers who I am...but then again...maybe she does...
"Ti quiero tu amor y cuerpo!"
Goodnight, Florence, and God bless!

“The Line of Wood and Rail (Lonesome Railroad Blues)”

Basically a true story; my life growing up as the son of a hard working 3rd generation Missouri Pacific (later Union Pacific) railroad man. He worked for over 40 years on the ‘line of wood and rail’; early on for seven days a week, year round, for up to 16 hours a day. Later on, six days a week and better hours. A harder working, more doting family man, I’ve yet to meet. He passed on Easter Sunday, 2003. I love you, and I miss you, Dad…God bless

“Unwritten”

Of course: written about, and dedicated to Tommy Bolin; Guitarist extraordinaire, from the early-to-mid ‘70s, who mixed guitar-driven rock-n-roll, with a little jazz and fusion twists. He replaced Joe Walsh [at Joe’s request] in the James Gang. He also replaced Ritchie Blackmore [at Ritchie’s request] in Deep Purple, and had two solo LPs out, before his untimely death. One of my guitar ‘heroes’…

“Dear, Jessi”

Written about, and dedicated to, the late, great Wayland Arnold "Waylon" Jennings. Miss ya, Hoss!

“Ragged-Ass Ride”

…Uh…The car, repetitively- on a consistent basis, was refusing to ‘play-nice’…On one particularly exasperating day…unaccountably…she wound up with 2 bullet holes thru her windshield into her dashboard…or at least, I was told…
